Shepherd Hill offers a 72 hour residential evaluation to rule out addiction or to help the patient with diagnosis and treatment recommendations.
Alcohol & Drug Addiction Services
Detoxification
This is the most intensive level of care offered at Shepherd Hill. Medical and nursing staff members supervise the process of withdrawing our patients from alcohol or other psychoactive substances in a safe and effective manner.
Partial Hospitalization Program
Partial Hospitalization Program focuses on:
- Overnight component offered
- Treatment can last 30 to 90 days as needed
- Stabilization
- Education on the disease of addiction
- Self-diagnosis
- Introduction to 12-step recovery programs
- Psychiatric assessment
- Psychiatric consultation and medication management
- Individual, group and family counseling
- Theraputic leave
- Yoga, swimming and a variety of off-site recreational activities focusing on physical health
Family education also is offered at this level of care as needed on Sunday mornings.
Additionally, patients focus on intensive work to change former thinking and behavior patterns that have led to relapses in the past, and the identification of previous resentments, fears, guilt and shame that are major blocks to recovery.
Clinical need determines the length of stay at this level of care.
Intensive Outpatient
The Intensive Outpatient Program for substance-use disorders is offered Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday during daytime and evening hours. Patients also attend family programming as needed. Patients live at home while attending treatment.
Medication-assisted Treatment
Shepherd Hill offers outpatient medication-assisted treatment of substance-use disorders.Medication-assisted treatment has proven to be effective in helping patients abstain from alcohol and mood-altering drugs with minimal cravings or withdrawal symptoms.
Aftercare
After treatment is completed at Shepherd Hill, patients are encouraged to attend weekly, facilitated aftercare groups. Overall patient satisfaction is 98 percent.

- Comprehensive history and physical examination
- Psychiatric evaluation
- Psychological testing
- Addiction assessment
- Social history
- Input from family and peers
- Laboratory evaluation
- Weekly, facilitated support groups:
- Caduceus for physicians, pharmacists and other professionals
- Weekly aftercare groups facilitated by a licensed counselor
- Help in designing and implementing a work re-entry contract
- Sending compliance reports to state licensing boards, associations or agencies involved in a patient’s recovery
