What Is Addiction?
Because of differences in body chemistry, certain people, through no fault of their own, are unable to successfully metabolize mood-altering substances.
Ultimately, they must learn to live a life of total abstinence from alcohol and all other mood-altering chemicals.
What Is Addiction?
At Shepherd Hill, our goal is to match the intensity of treatment with the severity of illness to provide individualized care. We continually assess patients to determine when they can safely be moved to a less intense level. Treatment may include any level of care or a combination of levels, depending on need. Shepherd Hill uses the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) placement criteria to determine the appropriate level of care.
